Miss GGW Adams
Miss Gillian Adams BSc MB ChB FRCS(Ed) FRCOphth
Gill Adams is a consultant ophthalmic surgeon at Moorfields Eye Hospital, and an honorary consultant at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children. She is the paediatric ophthalmologist to the Homerton Hospital.
She studied in Edinburgh, where she did her initial ophthalmic training before coming to London, initially at Moorfields. Miss Adams' first consultant post was at Oldchurch Hospital in Essex and she returned to Moorfields as a consultant on the strabismus and paediatric service.
Miss Adams specialises in paediatric ophthalmology (eye conditions in children) and strabismus (squint and disorders of eye movement) in adults and children. She looks after premature babies with retinopathy of prematurity, undertakes paeditric cataract surgery and uses botulinum toxin as a treatment of squint.
Miss Adams was a member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists' working party on non-accidental injury in children, and also of the joint Royal Colleges of Paediatrics and Ophthalmologists' working party on retinopathy of prematurity guidelines. She is an examiner for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.
She is a member of the volunteer faculty of the charity ORBIS, and has worked with them in India, China, Vietnam, Ethiopia and Jamaica. For CBM, she has undertaken work in Serbia. She is a trustee of the charity TED CT, which supports patients wth the distressing condition of thyroid eye disease. She won the Charity Volunteer of the Year award for 2005 for her work with ORBIS.
Miss Adams has published widely on the above topics and is regularly called upon as an expert witness.
